Donor Screening HIV Test

Abbott Laboratories has received approval for the first fully automated test for HIV-1 and HIV-2, the Abbott Prism HIV O Plus. The test was approved for screening donated blood and specimens from living organ donors.
HIV type 1 incudes group M, the most common subgroup of the virus in the U.S., and group O, found primarily in Cameroon and other areas of West Africa. HIV type 2 cheap is found mostly in West Africa. Both types have been detected in the U.S. and Europe.
