Ustekinumab (Stelara, Centocor Ortho Biotech Inc.), a biologic agent, has been approved for adults with moderate-to-severe psoriasis, an immune system disorder that results in the rapid over-production of skin cells. Plaque psoriasis is characterized by thickened patches of inflamed, red skin, often covered with silvery scales.
