What is this medicine?

CEFACLOR is an antibiotic. It is used to treat infections of the skin, respiratory tract, sinuses, ear, and urinary tract.

What should my health care professional know before I receive this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • bleeding problems
  • diarrhea
  • kidney disease
  • stomach or intestine problems (especially colitis)
  • an unusual or allergic reaction to cefaclor, other cephalosporin antibiotics, penicillin, penicillamine, other foods, dyes or preservatives
  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • breast-feeding

How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth. Take it with food or within 1 hour after eating. Swallow the tablets whole. Do not chew, crush, or cut the tablets. Take your medicine at regular intervals. Do not take it more often than directed. Take all of your medicine as directed even if you think you are better. Do not skip doses or stop your medicine early.

Contact your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses. There should be an interval of at least 4 hours between doses.

What may interact withthis medicine?

  • antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium
  • other antibiotics
  • probenecid

What should I watch for while taking this medicine?

What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

  • allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
  • breathing problems
  • dizziness
  • fever or chills
  • redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth
  • seizures
  • severe or watery diarrhea
  • sore throat
  • stomach pain or cramps
  • swollen joints
  • trouble passing urine or change in the amount of urine
  • unusual bleeding or bruising
  • unusually weak or tired

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):

  • gas or heartburn
  • headache
  • nausea, vomiting

Where can I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep away from moisture and sunlight. Throw the medicine away after the expiration date.
